TEACHING PHILOSOPHY || TEACHING PORTFOLIO HOME

What follows is a list of teaching goals for the next five years, as well as strategies for implementing them.

  • To increase my knowledge of economic and environmental issues, as well as issues surrounding globalization. This will best be accomplished through continuing to read in the area, focusing not only on anti-globalization material, but also on pro-globalization material. This will give me an idea of both sides of the argument and will increase my ability to discuss the topic with students intelligently.
  • To explore new methods of assessment in order to make certain I am measuring learning in multiple ways that are culturally sensitive. This will be accomplished through my continued reading in feminist and multicultural pedagogy and attendance of teaching conferences, as well as by talking to my students about how they best demonstrate their own learning.
  • To increase my own commitment to activism and social justice, the better to embody my belief in the importance of action. This will occur through community involvement at the local levels in groups that inspire me, such as sexual assault crisis teams and sexual education programs. This will also occur through my willingness to listen to and learn about national and international politics.
  • To become more involved in NWSA. As a (prospective) women's studies faculty member, I realize the importance of attending conferences and making connections with like-minded researchers and educators. As such, I will make such attendance a priority in the coming years.
