Teaching upper-level graduate seminar on feminist epistemology. Course acts as capstone for graduate certificate students seeking a certificate in women’s studies. Developed syllabus, reading list, assessment techniques.

Multicultural Perspectives on Women in the U.S.

Taught 40-person section highlighting distinct experiences of women from multicultural backgrounds in the United States. Developed syllabus and assessment principles, brought in meaningful activities and demonstrations, lecture, and stimulated difficult political discussions.

Taught small section highlighting theoretical bases for concept of personality and the numerous approaches taken in its study. Developed syllabus and assessment techniques, lectured and gave exams, graded papers.

History of Psychology

Taught a weekly course for History of Psychology, a required course for psychology majors at Piedmont College. Course consisted of 15 junior and senior level students. Wrote comprehensive syllabus. Develop weekly lectures, course assignments (including a required web page on a scholar in psychology), and classroom activities.

UGA, Institute for Women’s Studies

Multicultural Perspectives on Women in the U.S.

Acted as teaching assistant for 100-person section. Taught five discussion groups of 20 students each. Took over teaching the entire course when professor became ill. Revamped syllabus, and dealt with student concerns and problems, maintained communication between the students and the women’s studies administration.

Developed syllabus and created all lecture notes for 15-person section of upper-level students. Created exam questions and provided students with interview assignment in order to facilitate learning.

Assisted in a 300-person section of Introductory Psychology consisting of freshman and sophomore students. Helped to devise classroom activities and demonstrations.

Taught a weekly four-hour course in Introductory Psychology consisting of eight freshmen and sophomore students. Gave lectures, monitored attendance and participation. Developed syllabus and graded interactive classroom demonstrations, examinations, and course assignments.

Developmental Psychology

Taught an intensive laboratory session for two sections of Developmental Psychology, consisting of 30 junior and senior level psychology majors. Designed syllabus, laboratory sessions, and grading procedures, working autonomously. Reviewed APA Style and graded research reports. Responsible for eight class sessions a week for a five-week period.

Research Methods in Psychology

Taught a weekly lab session for Research Methods in Psychology. Class consisted of 25 junior-level psychology majors. Developed weekly lesson plan focusing on proper use of APA Style, lectured on qualitative methods in psychological research, gave assignments related to writing proficiency, evaluated full-length research proposals. Assisted in WebCT (online course management software) site development and maintenance.

 

Spring 1999

Cognitive Psychology

Developed laboratory syllabus and grading policy for Cognitive Psychology. Designed and maintained class WebCT site. Lectured in class on cognitive development. Aided in outlining the direction and content of laboratory experiments. Demonstrated and explained laboratory procedures. Graded homework and examinations and tracked students' course progress. Attended class regularly and took notes, and kept office hours twice weekly.
